  • RTX/cuda select on vray 7

Guys...my god, who thought of that interface? Had to trial/error to see what I'm using. Cuda actually always crashes my system, so that was the clue. Says Cuda is default and check is next to it, but I guess if I uncheck I get Cuda, and not RTX

This is not expected, we need to figure out why the CUDA engine is crashing on your workstation. Does this happen with all scenes?
If yes we will need to setup a remote session to take a look at your setup is possible

The CUDA engine is default unless you check the RTX option in settings
Usually the CUDA engine is more stable in IPR, and has better time-to-first-pixel. It uses less GPU memory as well

Will get back to you on that, but yeah, I just never use CUDA since RTX (GPU only) is faster than Cuda on my system - Threadripper 1950X and 4090.

Is there a way to set RTX to the default engine? On my system RTX is consistently faster than CUDA by about 15%. Other than these reasons listed, are there any other advantages to using CUDA? I don't really use interactive rendering much.

Not directly, but in 3ds Max, you can make a Render Preset for it.
