Not at the moment; the situation is the same as with the normal V-Ray DR (in fact, they use the same underlying system internally). It is possible though, and we'll be working on that.

    Best regards,

    Good news.

Yep, we realize the demo is not quite sufficient and we are working on a solution for a more expanded version that could be provided upon request.

Well done guys, I think the product is already immensely useful as it stands and I'm really excited when I think about where it can go.

With regards to various comments about the functionality of the Demo and features..... I think you only really have to look at the cost of the product to really put it in perspective. It's a great price, and when you know the level of support that is coming out of chaos group I would happily pay more. If I'd just created something new and exciting I'd be pretty careful about my demo version too.

I more annoyed about having my pants pulled down year after year paying the ridiculous sums of money for Max... for what? Support? Constant new features? Pushing boundaries? There literally is no comparison.

I've been using it for about 3 hours and I have to say its bloody brilliant!

I can see already that its going to be incredibly useful when tweaking lighting and setting up cameras.

    Well done chaosgroup.

I agree. I bought it simply because it is coming from chaos, it will be good now and great a little later. And as far as I'm concerned, we should support these guys since they haven't charged us for all the updates in vray over the years.

I started using vray back in the beta days and purchased it as soon as it became available. I haven't looked back since!

    Thanks chaos!

I just ordered it through Vismasters without even trying the demo lol.

You guys at Chaos have been great over the years - never charging for upgrades and providing the best community and support on the Internet. You deserve the extra cash - it's the least I can do.

    Thanks guys.

well i tried it yesterday and its just the thing i was allways looking for
even on one machine it was fast enough to get directly the impression "how ittl look" its so easy to compose the light and colors and the look of everything, and the picture is about 90-95% of the final one so it helps a lot!

    edit:
tried lots of interior and exterior scenes with it and im so happy that i can lighten up the scene , place the lights and shadows and directly change textures and it nearly looks like the rendering

I think its a pretty exiting product; to me it definitely is the future of rendering. As computers become more powerful, I believe there will come a time when the RT technology will be something people will not be able to live without I have no problem changing my workflow when it is to make my life easier, which the RT does. I find it to be really great to setup up the lighting in a scene, saves me the hassle of doing many renders to get the lighting looking like I want it to.

Anyway, your comments carry some weight around here and taken at face value might make some steer clear of RT without reason - particularly the newbs like me who maybe stand to gain a bit more. That's why I wanted to comment on it.

A point along that line for other readers: using RT does not have to entail changing your workflow IMO. You can adapt a bit if you want to work around some of the missing bits (proxies etc.) but mostly you can use it or not without any real change. I have had a lot of scenes where there was always *something* that wouldn't render in RT, but still find it very worth the while.

Understood. I'm certainly not trying to steer people away from it. I've been pretty psyched out this since seeing it in action last year at Siggraph. I'd be alot more inclined to adjust workflow to try this out if it was for personal work. My employer has already balked at purchasing this, and they don't even know about the stuff that isn't supported yet. Sadly I just dont do much personal work anymore. I get my vray fix for a good 8-9 hours a day already

I purchased vray back when it was in its infancy, literally. But things were different back then. There WAS NO fully functional GI renderer back then for 3dsmax. So being an early adopter was your only choice.

Back when I was really learning the basics of lighting and materials, this would have been awesome. Now I don't need it so much. Hate to sound arrogant, but these days, I plug in lights and materials and pretty much out of the box they're probably 85-90% done. Certainly there are scenarios where RT would help speed some things up, but I can wait until its a little more fleshed out before plopping down the money. This is as much a 'current economy' decision as anything else I'm afraid.

And as I said before, I don't want to change my workflow just for the sake of using the latest thing. Trust me I'll buy it eventually, if just to support Chaos, who are the greatest.
