  • Getting DR to Work

I have looked at the V-Ray RT helpsite but can't find what I'm looking for.

I have setup my render servers per the helpsite and started the servers but am not seeing any action within the console views. Just says waiting for render requests.

I have a simple scene (I can crank up the complexity) but the server consoles don't seem to be participating.

    What am I missing?

    Thanks!
    Sincerely,

    Mike Truly

Did you list the IPs of the machines in the Render servers dialog in the V-Ray RT?

    Best regards,
    Vlado

Ahhh... OK, now it seems to be doing something. (Guess I had to restart the slave systems).

Attached is what one of the consoles show. Says the scene is empty. Is that normal? Raycasts 0?

Can't tell if the slaves are participating or not.

      Thanks!

OK, now it seems to be working fine. I think that when it was starting the 'local render slave' that this was somehow doing all the work and the slaves weren't getting to do anything. When I turned off the 'auto-start local render slave' then the other slaves went to work.

        Thanks!
        Sincerely,

How can you tell whether DR and the slaves are working? You dont see buckets like you do with production. I dont see an option to turn on DR under the RT parameters. When I turn off "auto start local render slave", my activeshade window gets stuck saying "waiting for image data...."

          Nevermind, I figured it out.

dan, same here, i just checked one of the slaves and noticed the ram usage for vray.exe going up *very* slowly. for me with this scene it took something like 10 minutes before the slave machines picked up the scene and started rendering.

if you turn on the show statistics in the rt settings tab you can tell when something else picks up when your XXK rays/second goes up a lot! (In my case, from 40k to 800k..)

i haven't had a chance to try and diagnose why its sooo slow though. (Or even if its just this scene thats slow.. even though its only 12mb)
