  • Hdri illumination

    hi!

I've red into the guide that ImageBaseLighting is possible on VrayRT.

I've tried both with a VrayHDRI and a simpple LDRI bitmap image, but it doesn't work, the screen is all black.

Which is the correct workflow to set it?

    Thanks a lot.

It works for me; do you see any messages in the V-Ray render server window?

    Best regards,
    Vlado

Thank you Vlado for have answered to me so fast.

When you said to see the "render server window" I've tried to stop the VrayRTspawner and launch the "VrayRT render server". In this way all works correctly, while if I close the render server window and I restart the RTspawner the ActiveShade window is all black.

I don't know if it could be a bug.

My system is Windows XP sp2 64bit (updated online to the last version) and 3dsmax 2010 64bit sp1

      thank you.

      P.s.
A similar problem happens to me for the distribute rendering: if I run the Spawner (services.msc) on the render slaves they don't render textures on the final images while if I launch the Dr Spawner (icon bottom right) all works correctly.

Ah then it's probably a matter of permissons for accessing the texture. Is it located on a network drive or share?

        Best regards,
        Vlado

Ok, then you will have to set up the permissions for the RT spawner service, so that it runs with a user account that has access to the drive.

            Best regards,

you're right Vlado, in fact if I put the .hdr on the local disk ti works with the spawner service started.

You said I've to set up the permissions for the RT spawner service. I don't know how to do. Googling on the net I've found different informations about that but I'd like not to make "tests" to achieve ti 'cause I'm trying to mantein my system as stable as possible, so if you know the procedure I'd appreciate a lot

thank you again for your availability.

Go to Control panel > Administrative tools > Services; right-click on the VRayRTSpawner service and select Properties; select the "Log On" tab and set "Log on as:" to "This account". Then fill in the user name and password for an account that can access the network drive/share. Then restart the service and it should be good to go.

                Best regards,
                Vlado

I thank you very much Vlado for your support, I know that this is far away from Vray Issues, so I understand if this post will be closed, anyway it still doesn't work:
There's just one user in my system, it is the default user called "administrator" with a password associated to it; I've tried to fill like you said using these infos and restart the service but it doesn't work anyway, maybe because the "administrator" user hasn't access the network drive/share, even if it is strange 'cause I can access any folder and network drive through Windows Explorer.

If you have any other info for me I'll appreciate a lot.

                  Thanks

Daniele, have you tried setting the Vray Assets environment variable on your RT/DR slaves? It worked for me when I was having this problem..

On your slave machines, go to Computer/Properties/Advanced System Settings/Environment Variables/System Variables/New You will get a dialog that prompts for a Variable Name and a Variable Value. In the Variable Name area type: VRAY_ASSETS_PATH , and in the Variable Value area enter the UNC name and map directory path for the network machine holding the maps.

                    Hope this helps,

                    -Alan

thank you very much Alan, it works now for the RT spawner.
But it doens't for the DR, what I mean: if I launch the DR spawner (icon bottom-right) all works; while if I launch the service the DR works but it doesn't render the textures even if I've insert the Environment variable as you said. Is there another variable to use for the DR Spawner service?

Thank you very much for your support!

                        Hmmm...not that I know of...

Have you Network Rendered successfully yet?
