  • Vray and Cloud Services

Didnt know where to post this, but, can Vray be used with Cloud Services (Amazon EC2, Microsoft Azure, Green Button, etc)?

There are several companies that are working on providing canned cloud-based rendering solutions for V-Ray (GreenButton being one); there are also a number of companies that have done their own custom setup for rendering with V-Ray on e.g. Amazon EC2. These are mostly oriented towards the production V-Ray renderer though.

It depends on how they are used. Could services (e.g. Amazon EC2) allow a very low-level access to the virtual cloud machines, you can install your own applications and so on (which can be quite complicated). Most render farms don't give you such direct access to their machines (and also, they typically own their machines). On the other hand, providers of canned cloud-based services also try to hide this complexity from the user (and they don't own the machines - they use MS Azure, Amazon EC2 etc). From a high-level (i.e. user) view, there probably won't be much of a difference.

There's also a cost difference - Cloud Services rent access to their servers based on demand and you can place a bid for what you want to pay.
