  • Will RT replace Vray?

I assume that eventually RT will support all features necessary to complete a render, without limitation. It will be on par with the existing Vray renderer. The only difference is that it will be much much faster at rendering. Will Vray then become redundant? It will just be RT, no splotchiness issues, no flickering etc just noise to get rid of. In effect it will be just a one button click renderer that just works

Are there any plans to make the two different? You either have one or the other dependant on the project?

I don't see the regular V-Ray going away - both will continue to be available side by side. With that said, it is our goal to bring V-Ray RT closer to production rendering. For our internal builds it already supports things like motion blur, displacement, VRayFur, hair and so on - all of this much faster than the regular V-Ray. However, there is a major difference between the two - the regular V-Ray runs inside 3ds Max and can use its rendering API - that's why we can use any 3ds Max compliant textures like the Bercon maps, for example. V-Ray RT on the other hand, runs completely outside the 3ds Max API and we don't plan to make a connection between the two for the time being, for performance reasons.

Support for BerconMaps? - is that only on internal builds at the moment? This, (plus GPU RT support for Tiles), as I have mentioned in another couple of threads, is quite important for us. Can you give me any kind of idea of when these two map types are going to be supported in a public build?
