  • Nvidia 560ti - Which stable driver version ?

    Hey guys,

I'm not 100% sure if I'm meant to post in this section or the Maya section as I'm using the RT feature with Maya ?
But I'm wondering what driver I should try and use for my 2Gb 560ti ?
The current driver v285.62 doesn't work at all

I tried removing the *.clbin as well but still no luck, so I'm guessing it's a driver issue:

    Win x64
    Maya 2012
    Vray v2.00.04 (edu)

    EDIT:
Just searching through posts, and I'm going to try out v270.61

From what I remember, the 275.x seemed to work fine. This will be fixed also for the next update in a couple of weeks.

    Best regards,

VERY much looking forwards to the update from you guys !

I tried 270.61 & 275.33, although the nvidia driver didn't crash out this time, it's not doing anything when on openCL.

Ok that's progress; what do you get in the V-Ray RT render server window?

          Best regards,

Can you revert to 258? I'm running 270.61 and although it works it seems slower. According to the benchmark test my system ought to render around 3m30s or so but it takes 4m10s

Obviously quite a lot of text in that window, is there something specific I'm looking for ?

I can probably find it somewhere, the earliest on the list is v266.66 which I'm just downloading to test now.

              EDIT:
Something I noticed on one of the other tests, which is now happening with v266.66:
I can't have subdivide checked on in the RT options (or the object is invisible), and the material doesn't seem to like having a sampler info & ramp plugged into the reflection colour.
And messing around with the reflection using fresnel or not needs to have the RT stopped and restarted again.

              Edit 2:
I don't think I can go back to v258 as the 500 series wasn't out at that point.

Right, I've gone through all of the drivers available to me via the nvidia site:

                266.66
                267.26
                270.51
                270.61
                275.27
                275.33
                275.50
                280.26
                285.62

And I reinstalled my licence to ensure things were working correctly, something I hadn't done before was 'register vray licence server'. I think this added some env variables which was probably causing a problem.
So now ALL of those drivers are working (including the newest one) BUT they are giving the exact same weird issues:

If I want to use the OpenCL RT, I have to initially do the render with CPU, then switch it onto OpenCL.
No subdivision allowed, and it doesn't change if I play with the reflection (say going from 0 reflection to chrome/mirror), I have to stop it and start it (whereas CPU works properly with all of it).
So obviously I've either messed something up, or it's just the version I'm using which needs updating with the new release.

Are you testing this with a particular scene, or this happens for any scene?

The GPU version in the official builds does not support any of the "Amount" attributes in the materials; to change the reflection you'll have to use the reflection color.

                  Best regards,
                  Vlado

Any scene. Although I've made a very simplistic one to load up quickly if it crashes.

Yep that's what I meant, just bad wording as it was getting late etc.

                    Argh - now it's crashing RT again in v285.62 & v275.33.
I've got no idea what's going on

If you like, you can email me to vlado@chaosgroup.com - I will get you a newer build to test and see if the issues are still there.

                      Best regards,

HUGE thank you for the chance to test.

                          Vlado,

Just double check you got my email ?
As in the past I've had problems sending anything from my normal .com email to your chaosgroup.com (even after asking my email provider why).
I can email you from my googlemail account if you didn't receive anything.

                          Many thanks !
