  • vray rt GPU texture resolution above 512? plus Octane side note

    Hello,
    I'm fairly new to RT GPU and am having a problem getting my hdr in a dome light to be an acceptable resolution. for that matter, any texture doesn't seem to resolve above 512, even when I uncheck the box and set to 1000 or 2000. But when I switch back to cpu, it looks great. i Have an nvidia quadro 5000.

    As a side note, I've been testing Octane and am impressed by the navigation and speed. I feel like vray can be at this level, but I'm not experiencing the same kind of performance that Octane has. I would prefer to stay with vray. Do I have a setting wrong that is suppressing my GPU performance? with vray rt CPU I get around 800 k/paths, with GPU I can get around 5000-10000 k/paths on a good day with scenes that don't have any textures. Thanks in advance.

    You can try the following:
    *) Uncheck the "Resample textures for GPU" option;
    *) Increase the resolution setting in the dome light;

    Do you mean performance or interactivity? By default V-Ray does 16 samples per pixel on the GPU, whereas I believe Octane does just one. So V-Ray needs more time to produce an initial image. You can reduce the initial samples per pixel to increase the interactivity (although performance would suffer somewhat).

    So how much do you get with Octane? Although actually that's somewhat irrelevant; a more accurate test would be to measure the image quality after a certain time of rendering (with path tracing for Octane).

    Best regards,
    Vlado
