  • v-ray rt instancing support

    Dear v-ray team,

I did some tests with v-ray rt in both cpu/gpu modes with instanced proxies and geometry. The result is that instanced geometry raises the used ram amount. Will there be solution with v-ray rt to do instancing with ram efficiency? And if yes, when this feature will be available?

    Regards

This feature is included in the next service pack (V-Ray 2.4), both for CPU and GPU. The service pack is almost ready and will be available very soon.

          That are real good news,

if you can include also sss & displacement in vray rt then I will look forward to use vray rt as production engine. But instancing support is also an important next step.

SSS is one of the next major features that we want to do (after render elements).

Yeah, render elements would be so good to have!

Any plans for having those in the 2.4 Build or is it going to be for 2.5 (if there is one) or 3.0?

                Thanks

Render elements will not be ready in time for 2.4 unfortunately, but hopefully they will make it into the nightly builds soon.

Nice! It would be cool if scattering tools like MultiScatter or Forest Pro can tap into this. It's probably something they have to add? Octane Render already supports both of these plugs but of course it would be even cooler to have this power with Vray.

If they can produce regular 3ds Max instances in the viewport, then it will work right away without anything special.

Could you also add a hybrid mode for CPU and GPU computing? Than we could use all computing resources together.

This is currently possible with the OpenCL engine (I think I posted how to do this somewhere in the V-Ray RT forum). It is more complicated for the CUDA engine, but we'll get to that too (although not for this service pack).
