  • Geforce Titan Z

I'm looking into getting the Titan Z for rendering with V-Ray RT, but I noticed that the unsupported features for RT has not been updated in years. Are these issues going to be resolved anytime soon? Or should I just save my money and continue to invest in faster CPUs?

After viewing the list, it looks like there's still a majority of the features that were not available on the old list, still not available on this new list. Such as lights excluding objects. This is a huge decision maker. Will this be addressed anytime soon or should I just stick with buying more CPU rendering machines?

I recently considered this move also. However, what I understand is that GPU and RT on GPU is a very new and raw environment, not stable and constantly changing. From card to card from driver version to driver version, things break or change dramatically sometimes. Any time I try to use gpu in production I cannot, always encounter some sort of problem. In my opinion, for stable production of complex scenes gpu just isn't there yet (no one's fault) just the nature of the industry there at this time.

It has great potential though and in next few years things may change in favor of gpu.

Thanks for the feedback. That makes sense.

What I did do, is buy a high end hard (780ti) since my old one burned out, and I do tend to use it here and there just to push my production slowly to the gpu...and I stress slowly!

I also use a lot of plugins, like fur, particles, fluids etc. These things just don't live on gpu just yet.

Light excluding, fur, fluids and particles are yet not supported for 3.0, but they are coming for sure at one point. We have prepared a lot of stuff (and frankly the improvements on the GPU side are coming faster now), so we are getting there.
