  • Vray RT and Octane render

When will vray rt be a production render choice like octane render?

  • #2
Would it be possible to give us more information about your request?
V-Ray RT can be assigned as a Production Renderer for quite a while.

V-Ray RT is fully capable of producing production-quality images even now, and you can certainly use it as a production renderer. Beyond that, it is still missing some features like displacement, texture baking, more textures etc which are coming in the next service packs. But even now it is not really missing that many features compared to Octane (and has some features that Octane doesn't - f.e. the light cache, which makes V-Ray RT actually way more usable for arch vis).

      Best regards,
      Vlado

I have been looking for a faster way to get work out. I was happy to see ornatrix now supported but for some reason the hair renders a lot different than with the advanced.
It's little thing like this is why I haven't tried using it for end product.

Let us know of any such cases and we will fix them. In our own tests, the results come out the same, but it's possible that there other things going on in your scenes. There's no other way to solve this except working with users.

As you can see the hair is not rendering correctly but his eyebrows and mustache are.
The difference is the hair and beard are using bitmaps to determine the hair placement.
So i guess that's the problem rt is having. RT was CPU based on this render.
            Thanks

This was done in the latest vray in max 2015. the latest ornatrix.
The problem has been there for all of vray v 3 to date.

Are you using V-Ray RT as ActiveShade renderer or as a production one?

I see. In that case we use the number of hairs that you see in the viewport; to make the result more like the production renderer, make sure that Ornatrix is set to show the same number of hairs in the viewport as it does in the rendering.

                      Thanks! thats great news.
Each time i try and use rt in production slot the vray license server crashes.
I assumed it was because it was meant for the active slot.

I will try and find out why its crashes because anything that can make my renders faster is a good thing.

Hm, no the license server should never crash, regardless of whether the RT is production renderer or ActiveShade. I have not come across that problem before, but if you can't solve this, can you contact our support guys at support@chaosgroup.com and ask them to help you out?

                        Best regards,
