  • Vray Correct workflow For Physical Camera

In using the new Physical camera in 3dsmax 2016, which is really awesome. I noticed when using vray sun it renders out all bright until you set the EV from 6 to 14. But I've also noticedwhen using an hdri it renders out right at 6 EV. so which is more correct. If I use Vray sun, should I reduce the sun, or increase EV?

Hdri's are a bit of an odd one since they aren't all made evenly. A lot of people will set the brightness ranges on them so they look nice but they might not have an accurate real world brightness. The vray sun brightness is based on real world measurements for a sun on a clear day so it's fairly close to what you'd get if you were photographing in those conditions in the real world. When someone is making a hdri in really bright sun, a lot of cameras can't shoot quick or dark enough to be able to under expose the sun enough to get a really accurate brightness reading - the majority of them don't have the sun as bright as it really is so the range of values you get from it aren't totally correct.

I'd be more inclined to adjust your camera rather than the sun.

Okay that sounds about right, that's what I have been doing anyway, Adjusting Camera to the vray sun.
