  • GPU accelerated GI

I was checking out this article regarding mental ray’s GPU accelerated GI engine prototype.

    http://blog.mentalray.com/2014/07/07...ine-prototype/

I was wondering if Vray for Maya 3.1 RT GPU (CUDA), also has GPU accelerated GI?

If so, can it be combined with CPU (not RT) rendering in order to speed up GI?

    Thanks.

We don't have this yet. It is possible to implement, and I'm thinking about moving the light cache calculations to the GPU sometime, but we'll see. For some reason this mental ray feature doesn't seem to be too popular.

Well, I don't think the mental ray GPU GI acceleration is out yet.

I definitely think people would be interested in moving some of the GI calculations to GPU.

Why light cache and not brute force?

The GPU GI has been out for more than a year?

Because it's easier? If you want brute force, you might as well just use V-Ray RT GPU.
