  • CPU RT vs GPU RT

    Hi guys,

Quick question, I currently have a GTX970 4gb and was pondering upgrading it to a GTX1070 8GB. I would be using it mostly for lighting, material tests. But then I realised RT can also use cpu. I have 2 duel xeon 2670's as RN's and an overclocked i7 5820 as WS.

So my question is whether it would be worth using the cpu mode with distributed instead of a single gpu? Has anyone tried comparing this?

Generally, the newer GPU's are much faster than the cpu's. I would consider using both GPU's if you have enough space on your motherboard. This will give you much better viewport performance and an overall faster render.

Here are a few benchmark comparison of GPU's that Vlado and the chaosgroup team have kindly supplied.

Although the GTX 1070 is not on the list it is very close in performance to the GTX 980 ti

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers.

      Thanks,

Didn't even think of just adding it. Will see if it fits.
