  • Exposure shift in parallel view (Rhino)

    Hello Chaos Group,
I'm using Rhino 5 + vRay 3.60.03, GPU, and currently the most annoying bug is that when rendering perspective and parallel views of the sculpture, there is cca 1 EV shift between parallel and perspective views. It's thousands of objects with glass / emissive materials.

If this problem hasn't been reported already (unlikely?) I'd be more than happy to cooperate with you in reproducing it.

    Thanks,
    Jonas

P.S. Also most of the time on GPU rendering, Glare Effect just fails and produces black image. U_U

Hello, Jonish, and apologies for the delayed response!

The exposure discrepancy you are experiencing is due to the differences in the V-Ray camera's focus distance and field of view when you switch betweem Rhino Viewport projection types.
This is expected behavior. For more info, please visit https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...dFocusDistance

As for the lens Glare Effect issue - could you please provide some additional information:
    1. Is the issue reproducible only with a specific scene?
    2. Are lens effects not working altogether or only Glare?
    3. Are there any errors or warnings in the progress log when rendering? If you can't determine what the log says, copy&paste it in a txt file and share it with us (Progress window is accessible through a button at the bottom-right corner of the VFB)
    4. What is your OS, GPU model and drivers version? (by default, lens effects are calculated on GPU)
    5. Export a .vrscene file of a project which exhibits the problem and send it over. (Rhino's menu V-Ray > V-Ray Rendering > Export VRScene)

You can send request file and info either directly here, in a PM to me or at support@chaosgroup.com (link this forum thread in the email).

    Kind regards,
    Peter

      Hello Peter,

I don't understand much the discrepancy in exposure. Is it related to auto exposure? I believe when taking photos, exposure is unrelated to focal length nor focus distance, only to ISO, shutter speed and f-stop. (Also your illustrative photos both display different shutter speed.)

Anyway, is there some FULL LIST of unsupported features in Rhino GPU renderer? https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...orted+Features is totally inaccurate. I'm currently rendering Blend material with glass base and metallic Splats (using 3d mapping) and it works only on CPU.

I will let you know when I manage to replicate the problem with the Glare Effect with some next project I will be working on.

      Thanks,
      Jonas

Also: Is Environment Override in material's properties supported? Thank you.
