  • 16k maps render as black

3ds max 2018, vray latest nightly, didnt check in older versions. 16k maps render as black, which is a shame. I tried both png and tif, but if i resize them to 8k, the map shows up.

Anyone having this issue or is it just me? I'm asking because in some situations, 16k maps almost a minimum that is needed, and workarounds to 8k udims just add a good few more days to production, + at least a couple more days to find feasible solutions to the issues that come up, for example with displacement seams. Thank you

Can you check with today's nightly? Seems fine here.
If it was that easy, it would have already been done

Thanks Peter. Seems to work in the new nightly, but only if i move my scenes in a new fresh 3ds scene, which isn't an issue. Maybe we should do that more often.
        Thanks again!

Edit: i think i found a bug, will write some details below.

So in my current example, i have a 16k and 16bit, Tif displacement. In vray gpu settings/Perf/Textures, if i set Format to Half, i get displacement artifacts/banding. But 16k diffuse maps render well.
If i set Format to Float, displacement banding goes away, but also the 16k diffuse maps dont render.

Then sometimes when, seems random because if i change edge length and half or float options, and restart ipr a few times, some problems go away or come back, but i get these results

Any news? Did you manage to reproduce some of these issues? Thanks

I couldn't with your scene, but we have a similar issue reported by another client which is reproducible here. I'll post here when there is some new progress. Sorry for the inconvenience.
