  • VRayUserScalar -not picking up default value

(Maya 2018 VRay Next Win10 CUDA)

eek! VRayUserScalar defaults to "0" when it can't find the appropriate attribute in an object. The default that can be set in the VRayUserScalar node gets ignored.
    works great in CPU

Thanks for the pointer; will look into it.

    Best regards,

Having a lot of problems getting vrayUserScalar working on CUDA or RTX (fine on CPU).

Listed as semi compatible (in Max at least). Is there a chance you could supply a simple example scene where is works in Maya ?
(from what I can tell, alpha is the ONLY functional output in CPU?)

OK so it does work in some cases, not in others.
        For example:
vrayUserScalar hooked into the Diffuse Color Amount slot of a VRay texture to effectively control brightness ... WORKS
Hooked into the Scale slot of a Triplanar ... DOESN'T work

is there any guideline as to what works or doesn't work.. or is it pure trial and error? (or should it work, but we're doing something wrong ?)

I'm quite the evangelist for using vrayUserScalar. When it works, it works GREAT and is incredibly useful. Colleagues advocate just avoiding it as it's unreliable.
