After over a month of fighting this (luckily the client is slow to give me feedback), I had to try something else. I launched Corona and it seems to be rendering just fine.

sad to hear that, but good that you solved it anyway.
The support guys are also pretty responsive per phone btw - if you can handle the time zone difference!

So, rendering my scene with Corona was successful. With Corona DR, my scene rendered as fast as V-Ray GPU, only it is a clean render. What's up? I couldn't even render these out using V-Ray CPU (3+hours) without cranking setting 2X higher to get a clean render and I was still getting weird artifacts.

Could you give some specs about what hardware you used for rendering? DR could be anything from two cpus to a huge render farm
Did you just render the vray scene in Corona or did a conversion and tweaked materials?
            i never used Corona...

I have my main machine and then a Render Pro 2 as my slave, which honestly, isn't much help. I just converted the scene to Corona and hit render, so no extra work there.

i had the same thing, for me it was the auto exposure / auto white balance that screwed things up between my main machine and DR slave's
