Recently I have started to get the "Error: Unhandled exception occurred will exit render loop" more often does anybody have any advice as to what might be causing this?

Have you updated to the recommended graphics card driver? Does it happen on a specific scene? If so, send it to support@chaosgroup.com mentioning this forum thread, your GPU model, GPU driver, and V-Ray and host platform versions.

Thanks aleksandar this turned out to be a faulty memory stick that was identified with memtest86 (test 8 is quick to find faults) I have now installed the 3.2 update and I am back to a reliable interactive workflow.
