  • Vray GPU next CUDA mode crashing 3ds Max 2020

    Hi guys,

I'm using 3ds max 2020 and Vray update 3.2 and for some reason after this latest windows update every time I try to use Vray GPU in CUDA mode it crashes max even in the simplest scenes. On the other hand it's working perfectly with Vray RTX mode and also Vray next for cpu.
I would really appreciate your help on this guys let me know what you think.

    Best,
    Joao

    Hi there!

I have recently been running purely rtx mode on all my latest projects, so I tried changing it back to cuda and (CRASH) It happens on old scenes and also on empty scenes.
Im running 3ds max 2019 vray update 3.2 aswell. I have tried with different Nvidia drivers but still crash.

For me it seems to be NVlink/SLI related if I disable that it doesnt crash for me anymore. Im using 2x 2080ti with threadripper setup..

Could you please share some more details how to reproduce this?
      I would need:
      * Info of all the GPU's in your system
      * Are they using NVLink, if yes, how are they connected?
      * What driver version are you using currently?
      * What is the exact V-Ray version you are running? You can find it 3dsMax -> Render Setup -> (V-Ray) Settings -> About V-Ray

      Thanks!

        Hello again

        The gpus are:
        - 2x ASUS GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Turbo
They are setup as SLI configuration: Maximize 3D performance in Nvidia Control Panel (SLI enabled)

        - When NVLINK is enabled using (ASUS ROG NVLink 3) bridge and I choose both graphic cards and the CPU (1920x threaderipper) in the rolldown I crash. That's on a complete new scene or an old scene!
When I pick 1 graphic card and render or both cards NO crash.
When I pick the CPU alone NO crash.
When I pick CPU and 1 Graphic card NO crash.

        - When I disable SLI all of the above scenarios renders without problems!

        - Im using the latest Nvidia Studio drivers 442.92
        - Im running version 4.30.02 build 00001

We've reproduced the bug and it's something we have recently fixed.
You can grab an updated build from the stable nightlies here:
