GPU won´t render on my windows 10 anymorwe, 2 GeForce Cards installed

After running in unsolvable issues with Vray within 3dsMax (Vray 5 and previous version, cannot render anything GPU anymore, multiple Cuda errors, did post a seperate post in the 3DsMax issues forum with no results) I have now tried to run the Vray Benchmark and Vray refuses to render the GPU and does give me the follwoing error log message:

Vray Benchmark error log:

I have tried the following Nvida drivers:
442.92
445.87
451.48

with the same error results. The system used to work fine -no new hardware installed.
The system dows have
- GeForce RTX 2080 Ti
- GeForce RTX 2080
installed.

Hi,

There might be a hardware issue with CUDA 700 errors
Try to use C++/CPU see if it renders fine.. then try each card separately
You need to restart your machine after installing or uninstalling a driver btw..

thanks for your reply.
I have already tried rendering seperatley on the cards (no luck) and on CPU (CPU only does work). Also the restarts I did perform after changing driers.
If it was a hardware issue I woudl assume one card to work at least (if one of the cards had an issue). I might take the cards "out" and swap with a different machine her and see what I get.

Both cards won't have issues honestly.. you would be the unluckiest person ever
Did you play with timings or power limit?
What power supply do you have? and which board?

i think you can try with one card first, if the problem persists, try to underclock it.

I have not overclocked my cards but will check this and also going to tory to swap cards (from a different machine) to see if it might be hardware related. If not - no idea so far....also I have not gotten any answer from a Vray person here so far (PLEASE ADVICE GUYS!)

So I did take the graphics cards out and replaced with different ones (also GeForce 2080) > same errors. So nothing to do with the hardware (cards).

This is odd honestly, use one single card and install 445.87 driver.. and make sure you have the latest build of windows 10
Are you able to run any Cuda applications at all?
Maybe messaging support@Chaosgroup.com they will be able to tell what this error means

Hey Martin

This is really odd. CUDA 700 means the GPU has crashed, but if you can render with CPU emulation (which uses exactly the same code) that means the code is correct and the reason for the crash is not in the V-Ray code.
To me this looks like a messed up driver. You said you removed your and put a different card, but if the driver is corrupted, them no matter what card you put, it will stay that way.
You can try to render on a different machine, and put your cards there, just to verify that it's not a GPU Card fault.

Other than that I suggest using the DDU tool to completely wipe the NVidia driver and install a fresh copy on a clean system. Sometimes after reinstall or a windows update the driver installation messes up so bad, that this is the only way to clean it up (reinstallation's for the driver installer seem to be unable to resolve the problem)

thanks for your reply.

Rendering with the CPU emulation did work.
I did try the Card on a different machine and it worked there, also I put other cards into the "problem machine" and they produced the same errors. So I am going to try to use the DDU tool to wipe the Nvida drivers and install from scratch. I will let you know how it went!

after wiping the Nvida drivers off my systema and reinstall it looks like it´s all working. I still had teh desscibed error here and there - but much less. But at least it´s rare now and i can live with this. Thaks for your help.
