I can render my scene on my CPU in, let's say, 15 minutes. With GPU it takes 7 minutes, however, starting and stopping a render takes forever and things end up taking a lot longer. Why does it take so much longer to start and stop GPU render? I just waited 5 minutes for my GPU render to stop.

I guess if you don't have a good machine GPU might be good, but if you have a beefy CPU it might not be worth it.

Loading the scene can sometimes take long due to lots of reasons, but unloading /stopping should be fast always.
Is it possible for you to share your scene with us so we can investigate what's taking so long? Is seems like we're mishandling something and I'd like to know what so we can fix it.
Maybe we can improve the starting time as well.

a7az0th I missed faster GPU loading times at VfR too and I ask me, could it be possible to switch from real time rendering to production mode without to stop and load again? So, in this situation the loading time could be skipped. Often, I setup the scene in RT mode and only want to switch to production for the final render, nothing is changing at the scene.

The whole architecture of V-Ray GPU is such that currently it's impossible to keep everything in memory when switching from IPR to Production, but we're working on changing that, so expect improvements in the upcoming service packs.

About starting or stopping the IPR, I thought it is faster in Vray 5.. at least for me
specially stopping renders here is instant, I'm using Vray GPU in Maya and 2x Titan RTXs

The only time it was slow to start/stop was because of a bug.. related to using offline licensing which was solved in the nightlies
