  • Shadowcatcher not transparant in Vray GPU 5

    Hello,

I am a 3.5 Vray user, who just downloaded the version 5 and trying out the GPU render with my 1080ti.
In the past Vray had some troubles with the Shadow catcher, but I was told that everything was fixed in V5.
When I render a scene with a HDRI dome and a backplate in the environment background, my shadow catcher is not 100 transparent. The alpha channel is correct, but the preview is not.
Am I doing something wrong, or have I missed something?

From what I understand, you wish for the matte shadows to be in the Alpha channel only. Is that correct?

No, the alpha channel is correct. When I render this scene with a CPU the shadow catcher becomes transparent as it should be inside the framebuffer. But with the GPU it becomes darkish (darkgrey, half transparant).

For it to work you need the hdr in the environment slot, if it's what I'm thinking. You can put the backplate on another layer in the vfb

As long as I use Vray, I always have put the backplate inside the Environment Map (if I would like to see it inside the render). The HDRI goes inside the dome light. But adding a backplate inside the framebuffer layer is completely new for me.
          I will try it.
