  • How do I get rid of all these Fireflies ?

I'm experiencing a ton of fireflies in my images recently with V-Ray 5 (which I never used to experience at all with Next).

I use the default settings in V-Ray and there are quite a few in my daytime outdoor exterior renders (using HDRIs from Cosmos library).

And when I go for a dusky evening HDRI (admittedly I have a couple of cars with V-Ray lights in the front and rear light housings) the number of fireflies is unacceptably crazy.

Please, some guidance to how I can reduce or eliminate these.

I use Progressive rendering, but Bucket doesn't help at all.

Is it something in the materials possibly ?

    Many thanks.

    Jez

    Hi Jez,

Would it be possible to share a scene which we can test and possibly compare in Next as well?
Does reducing the Max Ray Intensity in the V-Ray settings help?

Best would be to get in touch with us with a scene so we can see the setup and troubleshoot further. Make sure to mention this thread in the email, thanks!

Thank you Nikoleta, I will try the Max Ray Intensity later today and report back - looks promising, so fingers crossed

If I still continue to have problems I will indeed look at sending you the scene to investigate (though I do need this to be resolved very soon, like within the next working day or two at maximum).

Many thanks for your support - it’s amazing

        Hi Nikoleta,

You can also use intel denoiser. It will filter out all the bad pixels.
I just can't seem to trust myself
So what chance does that leave, for anyone else?

Does the intel denoiser work with elements?

              Hi Nikoleta Garkova
Im using vray gpu 5.1 in sketchup, i'm having the same problem with vray 5.1 .didnt have fireflies with vray next.
i'm seeing fireflies in rugs with fur

Can You explain me a little bit how this parámeter works, should i reduce it too to .01???, i'm rendering interior spaces.

And Also do You think that with vray 5 this parámeter should it be at .01 even for every exterior scene and interior scene?

              Thanks in advance

Well, I am screwed now - I am trying to render a scene with fog and lights, and I'm getting so many fireflies - I simply cannot render the animation. i will have to entirely change the look at the last minute.

                  Hi Justin,

We have a ticket with a scene file from you, that we will investigate and will post an update.
                  Thanks.

Thanks very much - I spoke to someone on the phone.

I am also trying to solve this - I have run into another problem - the Vray Denoiser doesn't work with sub-pixel mapping turned on.

Try the Intel denoiser, it works great for fireflies.

I believe that for animation it's advised to denoise it afterwards with the standalone.
I wanted to do this for a sequence but honestly I just could not understand the process.
It's all command line which baffles me, so hopefully someone can describe to you how to do that for a result

Thats a shame. Most Chaos Group products have been made to be very user friendly now, so maybe this one is due an update?

The Vdenoise tool has a GUI version as well - https://docs.chaos.com/display/VMAX/Denoiser+Tool
If it was that easy, it would have already been done
