  • Error GPU rendering now not rendering scene which it was rendering okay yesterday....

    Please can someone advise why I am now getting rendering failures in GPU rendering, which was working 'fine' yesterday evening, now, I get these error messages;

    "error: C:\CI\cgrepo\vraysdk\samples\vray_plugins\rt_priva te\rt_opencl_(1549) : CUDA error 700"

    and

"error: [MemoryManagerGpu: releaseUnmappedMemoryFromInstance] 700: Could not release device buffer"

Hmmm curious, I have a reasonable similar error code when I region render. (See the topic and a screenshot of my error code somewhere below this one.) I'm wondering if it is Nvidia driver related, did you install any updates between now and yesterday?

Thing is my drivers are the latest and I'd rendered a 4k image no problem.

Now, today, trying to render a 1080 image, something I've been doing for over a week and it fails as such.

I'll try going to the latest verified driver and trying with that...

            Hi Jez,

Do let us know if there is any improvement when using the latest recommended GPU drivers.
If the issue is still present, best would be to reach us through our contact form and forward us the scene so we can investigate. Make sure to mention this thread in the email, thanks!

Thanks Nikoleta, I will do - the trouble is, that I anticipated to send you the scene but since 3DS Max 2021.3 (and earlier) I have struggled to successfully Archive a project to a zip file. It has proved not to work for me for quite a while (I’d say at least a year) - so I’m hoping this gets resolved without resorting to this. Also, my project needs to be rendered tomorrow - I won’t have the luxury of time on my side.... (the max file alone is 500mb big).

PS - I’ve just had an idea.... I have never used Chaos Cloud rendering, maybe I should use it for this project ?

Tried Drivers 461.09, as per your recommended list and this job failed again.

As I said previously, this job was rendering last night - on a larger resolution, gone back to a lower resolution ONLY just to rerender and it fails.....

I deleted a ton of stuff out of the scene - and it rendered @ 1920x1080.....

So I then changed the scene a tiny amount (changed a bitmap from one image to another) and tried a region render and I got the same error again.

I then deleted yet more stuff and this file for me is now at a minimum in terms of geometry - there isn't any more to delete out of it.... and it still fails.......

I don't do visuals as much as I used to, and this is my second project using GPU rendering, but I am now regretting it - buying cards and failing like this isn't spending time being creative at all, it is now managing to eliminate bugs in software. This might not fall onto Chaos' area, it might be NVidia, it might be Autodesk, Windows 10, who knows.......

I am sending you a WeTransfer link to download the scene and try to find this problem - PLEASE , this is VERY urgent - I am supposed to be rendering Production renders TOMORROW.

                    Thank you.

Okay, I restarted my computer and tried again and it worked.

Maybe I need to restart my computer each time for GPU rendering if this failure keeps reappearing (for whatever reason it reappears).

I'll keep posting / keep you informed.

its buggy and happens to me a lot
out of the blue a weird error on a scene that was ok previously
                        restart often fixes it.

this is with recommended drivers 3090s and currenty vray
hard to report this stuff as it mostly happening on commercial jobs and we dont have the time to stop and do bug reporting.

I found a thread on Itoo's Forum regarding this particular error message and apparently it is some kind of memory issue between VRay and FPP - so I used the 'instantiate' function in Tools of Forest Pack Pro to convert my FPP objects to instances.

I did some healthy scene optimisation and.....

.....ALL 7 of my production renders worked flawlessly - with NO failures at all

I have been having a royal headache with this but in Maya 2020 rather than Max. In my case restarting the PC did not work depressing as I had undertaken a lot of work on lookdev and since I have not heard back from chaos support I am left in the lurch potentially having to completely redo it in another GPU render option although I prefer to stay with Vray. My card is nVidia Quadro p4000 which not a super recent card but a good quality one which works fine with Redshift and premiere editing etc. Just like this instance, I was also able to render IPR still frame renders fast and efficiently, and it initially worked via and an update to new driver and then reverting to old briefly and then it bugged out seemingly and crashed immediately upon attempting a re-render launch. I tired resetting globals and pref's etc too and nothing has worked.

hmm interesting thanks - using forest heavily ATM and i generally do instanstatiate before rendering on cloud as Forest has issues on chaos cloud unless you bake them out
