  • Translating scene taking a couple of minutes before starting render

    Hi there,

I am having a weird issue lately. Sometimes my render takes way longer to start then normally, and it looks like it is completely random. It just stays stuck at translating scene (Starting gpu engine) fase and if i look in my taks manager it really seems like it isn't doing anything (memory stays the same and the processor switches between 4 and 5 percent) and this goes on for a couple of minutes. Then suddenly it goes trough and starts compiling the scene and goes trough all the other processes before starting the render. Now i am working on a pretty heavy scene with lots of objects and textures, so i understand that it could take a couple of seconds before starting with rendering. But even when displacement is turned of it sometimes takes 5 minutes before even starting the compiling process.

Is there any way to optimize this?

I work on 3Ds Max 2020 (latest update)
    Vray 5, update 1.3 (5.10.03 build 00002)

    And my system specs are:

    Amd threadripper 1920x
    96GB of ram
    RTX 3090 and a RTX 2080ti

I disabled my RTX 2080ti in this scene because of the amount of Vram i need for this scene, so i am rendering this scene on just my 3090 with RTX enabled.

Hope if someone can tell me if they are running in the same kind of issue or that it might be related to my system / system configuration.

    Thanks in advance!

Okay i think that it has to do with the amount of Ornatrix hairs in my scene and the calculation for this. It looks like that the precalculation for this is single threaded. When i render with the vray ipr everything runs way faster, and i noticed that it then just renders my viewport amount of hairs. Ill do some more tests to see if this is really the problem.
