  • V-Ray GPU Material Environment Slot Not Working?

Here I am with another odd Mograph type CPU/GPU parity situation.

With CPU I have as far back as I can remember been able to use V-Ray materials "Environment" slot to add a separate HDRI or other map for individual materials to craft reflections per material etc. this slot does not seem work with GPU at all, perhaps it's a known limitation?

It would be wonderful if this could be added to GPU, or educate me on what steps I might need to take on my end to get it working the way CPU does?

Quickest way to reproduce / test what I'm referring to, make a teapot with basic highly reflective chrome V-Ray material 16 IOR, no lights in the scene and add HDRI to material's environment slot, renders reflections as expected in CPU but nothing in GPU.

As you can imagine being able to control reflections per material this way is extremely versatile for motion graphics, VFX situations and I've gotten so used to this capability over the years with CPU, I'd love to for it to be working in GPU as well if possible?

    Hi,

Currently, Environment map slot of VRayMtl is not supported in V-Ray GPU. We have this reported to our to-do list (VGPU-2304) and we will increase the priority of it.
Could you use multiple VRayDome lights affecting specular or reflections with exclude/include list as a workaround for this?

When we have any progress making support for this we will post an update.
    Thanks!

I’m very happy to hear the Environment slot will be up and running in a future GPU update!

The multiple dome light include/exclude is a wonderful solution, thank you very much for this solution and guidance!

Thanks for the report, I will talk to the devs about this request. It is also something I use in my projects often, I think many will find it useful

        Best.
