  • Compiling kernels over and over and over and over again

What can you say about it? Drivers again ? (496.76) Or another optimization broke something? I always wondered why this compiling kernels thing happens so often. For example in redshift I've never seen it before. But here - just switch to another engine - compiling kernels, just switch to cuda - compiling kernels. Even if you render a sequence, you get compiling kernels again.
And now you think that everything is fixed and works, and then one or the other thing happens. It feels like the gpu is not even a low priority task, but somewhere lower... So sad

Ok, then site video player doesn't work with vimeo properly. Who can correct this Video is available via just link.

I just can't seem to trust myself
So what chance does that leave, for anyone else?

    Hey Paul,
The video you shared is private, which build do you use?

On compiling kernels, this only happens once when you install a new driver or a new V-Ray version. After this first time, it should not appear after
And even if it only appears once, kernel compilation times were massively reduced from +3 minutes in update 1 to 20 seconds in update 2. The process itself was made multi-threaded

On another note, the driver you are using is not what we recommend. Make sure to update to the latest studio driver 511.09

Compiling kernels happens every time you switch to another engine. Those kernels are deleted each time you switch ? Or what happens.

      edit

I don't understand which multithreading you are referring to. If you mean kernels compiling, each frame - maybe, but it is very fast to catch.

This is not the expected behavior, you can swap between Cuda/RTX or even V-Ray .. After the first compilation it should never happen again
So kernel compilation happens once for Cuda and once for RTX, it takes 20 seconds and will never happen again unless you install a new V-Ray build or if you update your driver

I'm going to test this build and report back shortly

Tested with stable build from the 7th and studio driver 511.09
Everything seems to be normal, kernel compilation happens once for RTX and once for Cuda. Then it never shows up again

Please let me know if you still have issues with this.

In the video I see RTX only doing kernel compilation once, in all other runs it appears in the log for a second but it actually doesn't compile anything. Is this about the log message or did I miss anything?
And nearly blinded by the Display correction issue I will make sure this one is fixed ASAP

              Thanks!

                Yeah, annoying as hell
But, if it is not doing anything - why it is here, in current task ? And it sometimes takes longer, than millisecond. Will show ya, when phx stuff gets resolved...

                  I got it now, thanks!
I agree with you this is not needed. I will talk to the devs and see what could be done about it
