  • eGPU not appearing as an option

First post in a loooong time.

I have my laptop hooked up to an eGPU, and this works fine in games etc. However, VRay GPU doesn't see it in the devices select menu: it only sees the built in 3070ti in RTX mode, or my 3070ti and 12th gen CPU in CUDA mode.

    Any suggestions?
    Kind Regards,
    Richard Birket

    Hi tricky and welcome back

Do you have a monitor connected to your eGPU?
Are you using Thunderbolt 4 on your laptop?
What GPU enclosure do you have?

I'd like to jump into this conversation...

I have the Razor Core X eGPU. Whenever I connect it, it takes over the internal laptop RTX3060 which is disabled. I did read about how to turn off windows automatic hardware drivers install option, then manually installing the geforce driver so both the internal card and eGPU will be "active". I haven't done this yet however. I'm wondering if there is a better process to get both cards to be active and usable with vray. Thanks.

Also - I'd love the option to also connect this to my desktop from time to time. Same connection directly from Core X thunderbolt to desktop thunderbolt, no monitor connection to either laptop or desktop.

You will need to make sure the connection on the PC/Laptop is Thunderbolt 4 if you have a high-end GPU, and thunderbolt 3 should work as well with a slightly lower performance.

I replied to your other thread, this depends on your laptop. You will need to take a look at BIOS I think, and you might need a monitor connected to the external card. Let me know how this goes
