  • Rhino - VRay 5 version 2.3 | Could Not Release Device Buffer

    Hi, I've just recently purchased a new laptop (an MSI GE66 Raider) but am running into some serious issues with it when trying to render via GPU.

    I almost always get this error:
    5/10/2022 4:23:22 PM Error [V-Ray] [VUtils::VOptix::OptixPipelineWrapper::launch] 7900: OptiX error encountered in vray_optix7.cpp[320]. Error Code 7900
    5/10/2022 4:23:22 PM Error [V-Ray] C:\gitlab\builds\LimF_JXz\0\aec\appsdk-builder\cgrepo\vraysdk\s(2740) : CUDA error 715
    5/10/2022 4:23:23 PM Error [V-Ray] [MemoryManagerGpu::releaseUnmappedMemoryFromInstanc e] 715: Could not release device buffer
    However, I am not sure what's causing it... for reference, I got this error when just booting up Rhino 6, drawing a simple box and attempted a GPU render, (see the screenshot below). I get this error with almost all of my files when rendering regardless of file size.

    My computer specs are fairly top of the line, so I'm not sure what's causing this. Any help would be much appreciated.

    computer specs:
    i9 - 11th gen
    RTX 3080 laptop
    32 gigs of RAM
    2 TB storage

    Hi,

    Can you try with the V-Ray version from the link below and confirm if this resolves the issue?

      Hi Slavcho,

      Thanks for the reply. I've updated to the latest version (2.5) and the error is still occurring.

      Here's another snapshot of a simple with a lamp that I had modeled and was doing a CUDA-based interactive render of.

        Hi ashergeorge_frailey

        What driver are you using?
        Are you crashing with all of your scenes?
        Can you try with our Benchmark tool, does it crash as well?

        Best,
        Muhammed
