  • VRay GPU Error with Lightcache - Error : [MemoryManagerGpu::releaseUnmappedMemoryFromInstance] 700: Could not release device buffer

Im experiencing this issue with one of my scenes. I cannot figure out what it is etc. I have switched to bruteforce and its working but this is not ideal.

We are currently moving our scenes to Vray GPU. Any help with this?

Vray GPU Hotfix 01 is what were on currently.

    Thanks!

      Hi Muhammed,

We have the same issue over and over again recently and basically we can't use interactive rendering as sometimes even moving a single light can cause this issue. If this happens the GPUs are not recognized anymore and a Max restart is needed.

I know you mentioned that it will be fixed, but is there anything we should do differently in the meantime?
What's causing this actually? It wasn't a problem before.

      Thanks,
      David

Sorry to hear you are having issues
This error is about running out of GPU memory. For IPR you can swap GI to use BF, it will be helpful to keep an eye on your GPU memory usage
If you keep LC subdivs at around 1000 it will be helpful as well
Here are helpful tips on managing GPU memory

If you get me a sample scene I will be able to confirm the error is about GPU memory

        Best,

Is "releaseUnmappedMemoryFromInstance" specific to running out of GPU memory?

Or can it describe other circumstances?

          Best!!

            Hey Karl,

It is not related to running out of GPU memory. It could be something else
Are you able to reproduce this issue?
And what is the error code you get with this message?

            Best,
            Muhammed

Ok thank you! Have been away from rendering a bit. I suspect it also can be that I overclocked the first of my 2080 Ti a bit much and can be faulty GPU memory some time ago. I will check the error code. It can be reproduced. In the meantime, thank you!

You will get 700 errors with bad OC usually
And yeah not recommended, unless you test the OC extensively to make sure it is stable (we officially don't recommend hardware overclocking)

                Good luck!
