GPU Vray for Rhino - RTX

Hello,

I recently upgraded my GPU to an RTX 3070 8GB. I have changed the settings in Rhino so that the RTX is set as the GPU renderer but the renders are taking longer in both the final and interactive rendering process than before with a much less powerful GPU. I am up to date with VRay version and the GPU driver is also the latest. I ran the VRay benchmark test for RTX and got a score of 1 and then 30...not sure if this I because I have Vray 6 installed? I ran a UserBenchmark test and it said the GPU was working fine.

Any suggestions would help incredibly

Let's clear some details first:

• You are comparing the performance of the same machine, only the GPU was changed
• have you switched the V-Ray version too or it stayed the same
• you are seeing the difference in the very same scene or you have this general impression that the process are slowly
• is it the same feeling in all scenes, even in newly created simple ones
• what was your previous GPU

• have you switched the V-Ray version too or it stayed the same - VRay was updated to VRay 6 before GPU upgrade
• you are seeing the difference in the very same scene or you have this general impression that the process are slowly - General impression
• is it the same feeling in all scenes, even in newly created simple ones - across different projects, even simple ones.
• what was your previous GPU - Nvidia Quadro P1000

After you mentioned the recommended NVIDIA driver I realised I needed to go back to v.512.59.

This worked for a while. I could sort of use Vantage and Vray Vision and the interactive renderer was working well. But now, the interactive renderer has gone slow again and I can't run the vray benchmark on the RTX test.

Even simple projects are not working as well as when I first reinstalled v.512.59

Hi,

many issues are described. Let's sort them one by one.

It sounds like a hardware related issue. Have you restarted the machine after the driver update?
Even the initially shared results (1-30) are very low, please check this option in your NVIDIA Control Panel:

About the inability to run RTX test on V-Ray Benchmark - is it greyed out or?

Soon improvements about GPU rendering will be released, but as mentioned, your case looks more hardware related.
Now we saw that you have also an opened ticket in our system.
Please share there screenshots from:

• NVIDIA Control Panel (as shown above)
• V-Ray Benchmark - results and RTX inability

Appreciated will be (if possible) to share a video to understand the slow performance that you are experiencing.

Hi,

I've now changed my NVIDIA settings to the same as your screenshot. After restart, the problem didn't seem to be resolved.

Here are some screenshots as requested. Please note, when I tried the RTX Benchmark the initialization wouldn't climb past 35% so it won't even begin the test now. I have included my previous tests when it had worked.

UPDATE

After waiting a little longer with the RTX test I managed to get a result but again it's an indication that something isn't working properly...I've included the log of this test too, if that helps

These scores are very low, something is not right. Please follow my steps,
>> Download this Studio driver
>> Close all applications on your machine, specially Rhino or Benchmark
>> Installing the driver, make sure you choose Custom install and check the box for Performing a clean driver install
>> Restart your machine
>> Go to Nvidia control panel, and change power management mode to Prefer maximum performance
>> Run the Cuda Benchmark(don't run anything else in the background) ,let me know what kind of score you get
>> If you are still getting bad results, Download Heaven and GPUZ
>> Run GPUZ, go to sensors tab and monitor the power consumption graph
>> Run Heaven default preset for 30 minutes or so, monitor the GPU power draw and temperatures. Post your results here

This is either a corrupt driver, or a bad GPU(that needs RMA). Following my steps, I will be able to tell for sure

Here are my results for the CUDA along with RTX test. Are these scores reasonable? Appears to be an improvement but the recommended driver for VRay GPU is 512.59?

sorry about the late reply, the scores in your recent post is fine
About the GPUZ screenshot, did you take this during the benchmark test running or after?
What you should keep an eye on is Board Power Draw, in both the benchmark and rendering
it should be +150 watts

If it drops let me know or share a screenshot here, this is most likely a faulty GPU

Hey Joy,

According to your log file, i think you should check the if the hardware-accelerating is enabled or not.

It can be found under System->Display->Graphics->Default Graphics settings (Win11). slide it to open if it is not, and it will need a reboot.

BTW, i think your CPU will bring bottleneck for your 3070 cards.

I have just run the RTX benchmark again and grabbed a screenshot with the BPD...

Is it likely to be my CPU bottlenecking the card?

Intel(R) Xeon(R) Silver 4108 CPU @ 1.80GHz
64GB RAM

UPDATE:

I started an interactive render on my project and it immediately crashed the PC. Took me to the blue screen with the stop code: VIDEO_MEMORY_MANAGEMENT_INTERNAL.

Right after the reboot I did another RTX test on the benchmark and received normal results again with the GPU Z BPD reaching 150w...

Do you know what could be causing this inconsistency?

I work with fairly heavy files but nothing the 3070 shouldn't be able to handle

It is not a CPU bottleneck
This is most likely a bad GPU. did you run heaven for 30 minutes like what I advised above?
If you get crashes or artifacts, it is a bad GPU. Heaven pushes the GPU more than GPU rendering
The last choice before sending your GPU for RMA is clean windows install + testing
