  • RTX 3060 Vray GPU error 700/7900

    Recently I left my scene to render over the weekend when I came back to continue the render the vray error 700 or error 7900 will appear everytime I try to render or open IPR using vray GPU. Even in a completely new scene it does not work and pops the same errors.

    Error
    // Error: line 1: V-Ray : [VUtils::VOptix::OptixPipelineWrapper::launchForOOC] 7900: OptiX error encountered in vray_optix7.cpp[335]. Error Code 7900
    // Warning: line 1: V-Ray : Error 700 while intializing context for device NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060! Device will not be used for rendering!
    // Warning: line 1: V-Ray : initDevices() failed. Please check that your system has compatible GPU devices installed.
    // Warning: line 1: V-Ray : Cancelling GPU rendering!

    First i would try to install a new nvidia driver. Looks like there is something corrupted.

      Already did. Tried installing different drivers as well, tried reinstalling vray and maya, checked windows and nothing worked.

        I had the same problem here with RTX3090. Took me a whole day to figure it out. It's the displacement settings. Set the filter in the File Node to default (Quadratic), And check Filter texture under the Extra VRay Attributes, Displacement Settings. So the default settings. When I want to make my displacements sharper, and turn off the filtering, Optix chrashed with error 700 or 7900. Please Chaos Support check if you can reproduce this. Oh yes I have UDIMS here.

            david_chia Are you still having issues with your setup?
            Are you able to run V-Ray's Benchmark on your system?

            Please let me know, we can schedule a session to check your setup with Team Viewer

            Best,
            Muhammed

              Hey Tom, sorry to hear you are having issues with RTX mode

              I'm not able to reproduce the issue on my side following your description, would it be possible to send me a simple setup that crashes on your machine?
              If I reproduce this crash I will make sure it is solved

              Best,
              Muhammed

                Hey Muhammed, thank you for your response. I will create a short scene where I reproduce the issue. I was able to run the benchmark and all was fine. When I set the displacement settings to default, filter the texture file with quadratic and enable filter texture under the vary attributes, the rendering work as it should. Switching back to sharpen the displacement via filter off let the Optix issue stopping the rendering. By the way the memory usage for the scene is 58% on the gpu with the default settings. Try to config the scene for you tomorrow. Thx Tom

                  Hi Muhammed, I am sending you a scene today and sending you a link via pm.

                  In my case unite some issues already raised here in the forum. Once the error with the memory, that was already discussed here.

                  https://forums.chaos.com/forum/v-ray...-device-buffer

                  Then another issue is that the displacement doesn't really push out when subdivision is enabled under attributes and with the GPU. Using Workarround OpenSubdiv helps, but makes everything slow. Then another problem. Layered Displacement to render FACS, only runs on CPU not on GPU. I have tried Layered Texture and the VrayLayered Texture Node. Under CPU great, GPU doesn't do it. The question why I want to render on GPU? Have 2x 3090 in each of my machines here and the render time is 1/4 that of CPU. If I include the slower CPUs of the other machines, it is actually a must to render GPU. thx Tom

                    Hey Tom,
                    Were you able to send me your scene?
                    These filtering types are not supported on GPU, I cannot reproduce any crashes on my side
