What is wrong with this object? Or what is wrong with Vray GPU renderer?

I'm getting a Missing OSM (missing modifier) hence weird results in both GPU and CPU. I presume this is for the vertex painting. Are you using another plugin for it? I don't see a difference between CPU and GPU with the 3ds max native VertexPaint.

      This is VRayFurStyler.

OK. I did some troubleshooting and it seems, in GPU the object must be collapsed to i.e an Editable Poly or Editable Mesh for the VRayFurStyler to work properly. I presume this is normal, but I need to speak with the devs first.

EDIT: I cannot reproduce it on a fresh scene, however. VRayFurSyler does not allow me to paint on uncollapsed objects. I'm interested in how you came to this result.
