  • Stopping a GPU render

I have posted this before, but there was no solution. Stopping a GPU render when doing an exterior isn't possible. I can wait 1/2 an hour and have to kill MAX. There has to be a solution. Otherwise, GPU is useless for these scenes—nothing crazy, just an exterior scene with Forest Pro, Railclone, and some displacement.

Hi, thanks for posting. Are you sure you have enough video memory? Are you able to save your render output? What is the hardware during the time you are waiting for render end? What is the utilisation of the CPU, GPU, storage devices? Is you 3ds max frozen during the time you have to wait for render end?
Which button do you use to stop the render - the "stop", the "cancel" or the VFB stop render icon? Do you have Denoiser active? What messages do you get during the waiting period, could it be the denoiser working on the image?

I have an RTX 4090. I pick the cancel to try and kill it. I have 128 GB of RAM and don't come close to maxing it out. I'll have to peek at the video ram next time. Yes, MAX says not responding, but that is nothing new. If I look at my screen wrong it sometimes goes into not responding.

        Hey!

I'm able to reproduce this on my side, it happens with complex scenes usually with many scatter objects. We will pass to devs to take a look

I have this as well, cant cancel a render half the time when using IPR in GPU . Drives me INSANE. This particular scene has a Phoenix fd grid, and using denoiser if that's relevant. Pushing stop, pause, esc, etc all doesnt work. Scene is still responsive , but VFB stops updating and have to quit max.

I can only use GPU for interior work. For exteriors, it is too frustrating to use.

It is fixed yes, please stick to CUDA mode for your rendering. See if that makes things better

Yes, it has been fixed. For the last month, I have been using GPUs for all my work. I added a second 4090 since it has been going so well.
