  • Matte Floor + Finite Dome on GPU

    Hi,

I noticed that when using Finite Dome with a shadow catcher groundplane it works without issues on CPU but in GPU rendering it doesn't.
Basically it just cuts a hole in the finite dome and shows whatever is setup in the background.
Is there any way to make this work the same as in CPU where the shadow is placed on top of the finite dome and doesn't just show the background color?

    Cheers,
    Jonas

    Hi, thanks for posting.

It seems to work in my test. There is a small difference between the GPU and CPU in the way the shadows look but this is expected. Here are my tests:

Hi, I managed to track it down as it was working fine indeed if I just do it on a new scene.
So it had to do that I had 2 domelights in my scene where I split up diffuse and specular/reflections. Once I delete or turn off the other domelight it suddenly works. In CPU it works regardless.

But this was an old scene saved many V-Ray versions ago. If I delete the domelight in question and create a new one it also seems to work, just the existing domelight somehow creates issues. So I guess it had to do with this specific scene and is not a general bug...

Hi, the V-Ray Dome Light has gone trough several improvements with the last few versions. The finite dome feature is added in V-Ray 6.00.04. If you are opening a scene that was built with V-Ray 5 this is highly likely the reason it won't work.
