  • rt_cuda.dll crashes

    Hi Vray team,

I have crashes when rendering with gpu. The crash is triggered by the rt_cuda.dll. I'll added the crashreport.

I'm wondering if the crash is connected with my new graphic cards I'm using two NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER OC, 16GB (Driver: 31.0.15.5186)

    Cinema 4D 2024.5.1.
    VRay 6.20.03

    I followed this tutorial:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=injfhCVLwBI
which seemed to help, the crash comes later. But the system is still unstable.

If you need any further info, just let me know.
Quick help would be appreciated I'm on a deadline with a project.

    Thx. B.

Hello Berndimator Thank you for reaching out to us!

I would need some additional information if you could please share it with me:
    1. Does the crash appear with a specific scene or with a new, simple scene as well? -> If it's a specific scene, please share with the scene so we can investigate it on our machines.
    2. What is the exact V-Ray you are using ( V-Ray > Help > About )?
    3. Did you update your Graphic Cards recently? Would you say that before that the crash was non-existing? If yes, I would advice on switching back to the previous Graphic Card to test whether this fixes the situation.
    4. Would you say the crash appears consistently once the render is started or unexpectedly while you work?
    5. A video recording of the crash would be appreciated as well so we can observe the situation.

You can share the files here or by Submitting a request to our system.

      Hi,

      here are my answers.

1.) I rendered the same scene on a different machine (same card 4080, same driver, only one card though) rendered without any problems.
      2.) See above
3.) It's a new machine, with new cards. So no update.
4.) It crashes after rendering a certain amount of frames. The last crashes been around 100-125 frames. Frame render time was around a minute - so roughly after two hours it would crash.
5.) Sorry I can't provide this. Anyways the failure message is that the rt_cuda.dll crashed in an alert window. I'm sure on the video you wouldn't see much more.

      Thx. B.

I did a render test during the night. This time I removed one of the two graphic cards. Didn't help, it crashed at frame 281. Same error message as above. I created a dump file, I'm uploading it right now.

I did another render test. I removed graphic card 1 and replaced it with graphic card 2, so again I was only rendering with one card. Crashed again, same error, this time at frame 113.

          Here's the official error alert:

Hi Viktor, I checked my mails, also junk. Beside the infos about the recent messages in this thread I haven't gotten anything. What about the private-messaging option inside the forum?

                          1. I worked on various scenes and while rendering, it randomly crash with the error shown in my previous post "The plugin rt_cuda.dll has crashed..."
                          2. I am using V-Ray for C4D 2024 release (latest version)
                          3. Its Dell Alienware Aurora R15 Gaming Computer, Intel Core i7-13700KF 3.4GHz, 32GB RAM, 1TB HDD + 512GB SSD, RTX 4080 16GB GPU. Win 11
                          4. Unexpectedly, when computer is just doing the render and nothing else (no multitasking)
                          5. Its impossible to record the crash, however, I have shared the screenshot the error message, and you click "OK" the software disappears from the screen.
Means, I have to again initiate the software. At times, it does not crash even once in 8 hours while rendering, and at times, it crashes within minutes after rendering has been started. so this is
absolutely random, but with the same crash error "rt_cuda.dll"

This crash is restricting me to deliver urgent project, and it keeps delaying... as I am unable to monitor the crash while I am away from PC... for example, like
midnight, or while I am gone to office for 8, 9 hours.... I am unable to perform rendering in one go! please help me resolve it.

                          Thanks for your kind support
