  • Cannot render, mat editor black, driver version confusion

On 3dsmax 2023 - I have just installed vray 7 from 6 with the installer downloaded off the website today.

    The material editor is black

If I try to render, it errors out with this:

[09:57:43.505] Error : Failed to build Embree tree for dynamic mesh: [EmbreeStaticMeshTree::build] 1: Committing (join) scene failed!

[09:57:43.515] Error : Building Embree dynamic geometry tree failed: [EmbreeBoxTreeGPU::build] 1: Committing scene failed

    [09:57:45.607] Error : 2 error(s), 1 warning(s)

    Additionally it says:

[09:57:43.484] Warning : Checking CUDA driver version: 5001: Installed driver version (572.16) is newer than the latest verified one (566.14)!

Why is it saying latest verified is 566.14 ?

On the site and requirements page and here on the forum it says 572.16 is the current verified one.

Same installed on another machine works fine and does not have this message using 572.16

this is on any scene, even one with a sphere and a dome light and using RTX

If I try with CUDA, I get this error:

[10:03:34.474] Error : Error building Embree static ray caster, error message: [CommitEmbreeThread::threadProc] 1: Committing scene failed

    [10:03:35.183] Error : 1 error(s), 0 warning(s)

But no error about driver version

If I go ahead and install the driver it mentions (566.14) then I still get this error when trying to render:

[10:58:45.833] Error : Failed to build Embree tree for dynamic mesh: [EmbreeStaticMeshTree::build] 1: Committing (join) scene failed!

[10:58:45.837] Error : Building Embree dynamic geometry tree failed: [EmbreeBoxTreeGPU::build] 1: Committing scene failed

      [10:58:59.996] Error : 2 error(s), 0 warning(s)

The 572.16 driver is the one you should use. Otherwise, send the scene so we can investigate it.

Before you do, please try updating your Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2015-2022 and see if the issue persists. Such errors are caused by missing it.
