  • vrayRT Dongle Reprogramming

I carry my dongle around from home and work:
at home when I interrogate my vray licence server http://myserver:30304 I get "email dongle serial number to vray" link: at work I don't get such a link - I get no links at all (both with Firefox and with IE)

I certainly don't get "reprogram wibu key" link that is talked about in the RT registration. Do I have to install RT before I try and re-program the WIBU key, or afterwards.

The docs are also a little confusion about installing a renderslave without installing max - does this work (finally)

You need to install the RT first, as that will update the V-Ray license server with the version that has the link.

I had the same problem and it appears you need to use the normal VRLServer rather than the VRLServer run as a service to get it to work.

      Many Thanks

i had the same problem, even with VraylicenseServer running as a process, instead of a service.

        http://localhost:30304 didn't work.

        http://127.0.0.1:30304 did work...no idea why

It works, yes. Which part do you find confusing (so that I can perhaps re-write it)?

I think the confusing bit is that its there at all, I wasnt expecting it.

but the area in question is this:
•Standalone V-Ray RT render slaves – these are machines that can be used as V-Ray RT render slaves, but do not have 3ds Max installed.
•Standalone render server - this installation type allows you to use a machine for distributed rendering with V-Ray RT. This installation does not require 3ds Max or V-Ray for 3ds Max.

also the words slaves and server are used interchangably. I think this has been confusingly used previously. Slaves I understand, server gets a little confusing.
the repetition causes a little confusion, but explaining also if there are any disadvantages to this setup.

The first probelm was fixed when I installed the VrayRT licencing. Still waiting for the .rtu file

I did install the vrayRT renderslave without max installation on a spare machine in the network. It kept giving me "this application has not been installed properly, reinstaling may fix the problem" error. Reinstalling did not fix the problem. Not sure if it was looking for dongles that werent there.

Maybe also this line in the section "Reprogramming a dongle". this line would have stopped me asking for help:
"Prior to reprogramming the dongle, please Install VRay RT"

              Ok, thank you for the feedback, I'll take care of clarifying this portion a bit;

As for the error "this application has not been installed properly, reinstaling may fix the problem" you will also need the Microsoft Visual Studio runtime; I will post the links here a bit later on (however we should add these to the installer itself really).

              Best regards,
              Vlado

Should be fairly quick depending on when your order was placed; if you want to check, you can email us to vray@chaosgroup.com or call any of the phone numbers listed on our website. You can also email me to vlado@chaosgroup.com

                  Best regards,

the web based wizard does not appear

after clicking on upgrade your licences a new window opens with the following line

"Get status of the server" again!!

                    what went wrong?

It means that you are still running the old license server. It may happen if you have V-Ray installed for more than 1 version of 3ds Max and you installed the RT for a newer version of 3ds Max, but you are still running the license server from a V-Ray installation for an older version of 3ds Max.

Just run the license server for the version of 3ds Max for which you installed V-Ray RT.

Do I really have to install the whole Vray RT on my server to reprogram the dongle? Basically we try to keep our server clean from unneccesary applications so this is quite a bit of anoying. Is there no installation for only the license server, not more?

There is an installation option to only update the license server; it will be available if you previously ran the V-Ray installation with the "license server only" option.
