We've tested it on 9 machines so, that part definitely works

On the render server, you need V-Ray RT installed; if you already have the standard V-Ray for 3ds Max installed, you can just go ahead and start the V-Ray RT render server (Start menu > Programs > Chaos Group > V-Ray RT for 3ds Max > V-Ray RT render server). If you did not have V-Ray for 3ds Max installed, you need to set up the address of the V-Ray license server machine first, and then start the RT render server.

On the client machine, you need 3ds Max, V-Ray 1.5 SP3a, and V-Ray RT installed. Start 3ds Max, assign V-Ray RT as ActiveShade renderer in the Render Setup dialog, switch to ActiveShade rendering mode from the lower left corner of the same window and you will get the options of V-Ray RT. Click on the "Render servers" button to add the render servers you wish to use.

    More information is available here:

Anyone else had problem setting up render servers?
I had problem getting a connection to the other servers until I tried using a IP adress instead of networknames when adding servers.
Is the resolving of network names broken in Vray RT DR settings?

The RT should use the same resolution method as the normal V-Ray; does that one work?

Yes, the normal VRay DR resolve function works just fine, however there isn't a "resolve servers" button in the VRay RT DR window...
I just assumed that VRay RT resolved the network names automaticly, even though there were no "resolve servers" button.

            I'm on MAX 2009 64-bit, and SP3a...

Ok, I will make a note to check this more carefully. It works with the IPs though, right?

I got them using IP, nice to have the DR list method mirrored
