  • maps over the network?

I'm not getting Any maps of any sort to render using machines over the network.
Is there some trick I'm not aware of?

The scene is using an xref, but that is working fine as far as I can tell. It works pretty darn fast using multiple machines, but I'm not getting any bitmap textures.

Is there a reason these wouldn't work? The textures are mapped in the exact same location on a shared network drive with the same name.

make sure the paths are configured on your slaves. Then also make sure under your asset manager to point to the proper UNC/Mapped drives that you just configured.

Then I would test it out on a non-xfred scene to see if it works.

      also make sure your mapped drives if you have any carry the same letter in every machine;

merged in the scene and still have the same problem.

Regarding the drive: I run the exact same startup script on all computers that makes the drive look like - v$ on 'Server00' (V: )
I noticed they are listed as "Disconnected Network Drive" even though if you double click on the drive, it works just fine. BUT, then I went and looked up some info (I don't know much about this) and it looks like there was some sort of autodisconnect on my server after 15 minutes. I changed that to never and hopefully we see some good results. I have RT on my coworker's machine and he's not quite in yet. I'll have him test it out again as soon as he gets in and post the results.

He's in: tested: Still no maps.
Since the Xref worked I assumed that the maps should work too since they are located on the same drive. am I wrong about that?

I have a build of RT which may help somewhat in tracking these issues; it prints out the error codes returned by Windows, which may be useful for trouble-shooting the issue. If you are interested, you can email me to vlado@chaosgroup.com

            HI

im having the same problem, what ever i do no maps will show up, even on a small scene, Tea pot on plane ....

this is more complicated but no textures and objects are missing, like the blinds at the windows ect... i havent been able to get RT working properly at all, a little frustrating ..

Would seem starting the servers manually on each machines fixes the problem for me.

I don't run the nodes as a service, but have the RT server startup automatically on each machine and I have no issues with texture maps at all. Just dumped a shortcut into the startup folder and that's about it.

I have not tried the spawner out, but the nodes don't really crash for me.

what do you mean start them manually? We still don't have it working here. Quite annoying. It would be Great if we could get that to work.

Are you running the RT nodes as a service? If so try disabling that and just manually start the RT render server (program files/chaos group/VrayRT/Vray RT Render Server)

That works fine for me. I made a short-cut of that and added it to startup and haven't had to worry about it since.

Just to let you know I had the same problem, and used the above solution to get it to work.

                            Not working.

                            Hi,

I am having the same issue with DR and texture maps. I have verified that the textures have a UNC path and are accessible from the slaves. I am running Max 2010 x64 on Vista x64 with Vray 1.5 SP4a and Vray RT SP1 on all machines, client and slaves.

The textures are on a Thecus NAS with a Linux OS.

Distributed Render does NOT work. I have tried it as a service, not working. I have tried starting the VrayDRSpawner, but it does not start till I right click and start it as Admin. After that it starts the VrayDummy file. None of these machines have had backburner run on them. Is that still a requirement?

If I run a render using only the client machine, it renders with textures. If I run a render using DR, then all the buckets *including* the client bucket, turn out black.

VrayLog.txt on the slaves show the textures as missing.

VraySpawner log says something about missing 3dsmax.ini file, and it is using defaults.

I have tried rendering after adding the texture path of the network share to Max paths, as well as without. Both times the same result.

Vray RT seems to be working fine. I start the Vray RT service on the render slaves and I see the data index update on all the slaves, so I assume they are participating. Is there a way to check for sure? All textures load fine in the Vray RT Active Shade window on the client.

Please help. Been trying this for several days now.

                            Thanks!

If you need to run the spawner as an administrator, then maybe something is wrong with the user permissions on those machines; as soon as you run a process as an administrator, it already uses a different set of access rights than your regular login.

                              Best regards,
