  • Grainy activeshade vs. clean production render

I have attached to renders, the first is RT and the 2nd is production. As you can see the RT version is very grainy. Can someone help me with figuring out how to fix this??

Do you have any GI in the scene? The RT engine does not use any kind of GI caching; it uses brute force methods for both primary and secondary bounces - this might explain the results.

Vlado, thanks for the quick reply...

yes I have GI set to IR and LC. Should I not be doing this?

Vlado, just turned GI off and here is the result...

much less grainy, but still grainy.

Does it clear with time? Also, are there any materials with opacity map in the scene?

              Best regards,
              Vlado

No opacity maps in the scene yet. It clears over time, but not completely and very slowly. I will post an update after I add more lights and get the scene cleaned up more.

Vlado, if RT doesn't not use GI caching, how do get a result similar to what you would see if rendered with IM and LC? My RT activeshade view is considerably darker than an actual render. Am I doing something wrong?

It doesn't look so much darker in the images you posted? You can try to increase the GI bounces to make it better match the production rendering. It is expected to be grainy though, I'm afraid there is nothing much to do for the moment other than let is run for a longer time (or use more machines in DR) - it is a preview renderer after all.

                    Best regards,
                    Vlado
