  • Slow and noise

Using a 16 core machine (Win 7 64-bit and 24 GB RAM) as renderslave for VRay RT. It is surprisingly slow imo. To see the image on my workstation (a 32-bit Vista machine), the renderslave first counts "New data index" up to something like 20000, which takes maybe two minutes. Then I start seeing an image, but first after maybee another two minutes the details start showing. However it is so much noise that I can´t really use it to evaluate lightning and materials.

The scene is pretty big (140 MB) but I am hiding most objects leaving only a fraction visible.

    Any hints?

this is how it looks after more than 3 minutes

The initial startup time depends on the scene complexity (how many objects/geometry need to be transferred to the render server) and the time for loading the textures; the noise depends on the lighting and geometric complexity of the scene.

BTW, are those 16 physical cores, or this is with hyperthreading?

You can also add more machines in DR for additional speedup.

So more lights mean more noise, am I correct? So how should I work in my lightning phase? In this particular scene there are 3 VRay lights and 3 spotlights. Can´t I expect a cleaner image with that number of lights?

Nope, it is two xeon processors...
