  • Can make rt demo to work at all!

OK, I know it's going to end up being something dumb that I'm missing but after playing with it at least 4 hours, I'm lost, I cannot make it to work, here's a pic of what I think is the most relevant info about my situation.
Some help please, it just hangs in there, it doesn't make anything :S

    THanks guys

Does it work if you do not specify an additional render host? Also, are there any firewalls that might be blocking the connection between the two programs? If you check the task manager, do you have other copies of vray.exe running?

    Best regards,
    Vlado

Nope, even if I specify the local host, or start by myself the server, it makes no difference.
Task manager only shows vray.exe(when i start up the server) and vrlservice.exe
turning off windows firewall makes no difference either.

But maybe I'm doing something wrong? I'll explain what I do step by step

vray licence server runs on windows startup (normal licence server, not RT)

      Fire up max
make a simple scene, a vray plane, a box, a camera, a vray light
      open up render settings
select vrayrt for the active shade renderer
(optional) If I go into the vrayrt tab, and look for any server, there are none available, not even if I start up the vray-rt render server, if I look for my computer, it does show up, but that's as far as it gets.
using a viewport (in perspective or camera view) I right click the view ooptions (bracketed camera text) and go all the way down to activeshade
viewport goes black, and says vray rt demo 320 by 240
If the server was started by me, it shows no activity, just waits for render requests from 20206 port
      It doesn't start by itself

after that, I don't know what to do, if I render the scene renders perfect, just no active shade at all.
And yes, i have tried to set up at least 3 or 4 different scenes, nada so far.

Ah, this would be the demo resolution restriction. Rather than starting it in the viewport, try running it from the "ActiveShade" button in the Render Setup window; make sure the resolution is 320 x 240 for the ActiveShade renderer (not for the production one).

            Best regards,
            Vlado
