error: Could not obtain a license (-98)

[v_wrangler]

I installed vrayrt, restarted max, chose vray as production renderer, chose vrayrt as the activeshade render.
Made a simple scene, renders fine in vray
From the viewport, I activated activeshade and stops at the same error:

Loading V-ray plugins
Translating scene for v-ray
Building scene command queue
Starting local render server
error: Could not obtain a license (-9

Something I missed?
Please help.
