  • VraySun ignored by VrayRT

    Hi guys!

Wonder if someone can help me. Usual apologies if this has already being covered, I did a big search on this.

I have a simple scene lit with one of Peter's EXR files. There is just a Vray Plane and a teapot. The scene is lit by Peter's EXR via a dome light. I have a VraySun to help the shadows.

Now everything is perfect in VFB. The only issue is the VraySun is being completely ignored by Vray RT, even if its moved, switched on or off.

VraySun is 'rigged' to the dome light as per Peter's tutorial here http://www.peterguthrie.net/blog/201...-sky-tutorial/. That cant be the issue as I have also added a new completely independent VraySun, and even that is ignored by VrayRT, although the Activeshade window does a refresh update if the new one is moved. I feel like I might be missing something but I just presumed the Sun would work in RT so there must be something wrong.

Which version of V-Ray RT are you using?

Does it work in other scenes? Can you send me the file for this to vlado@chaosgroup.com so that I can check what's wrong?

Otherwise, it works for me on a simple test.

        Best regards,
        Vlado

          Emailed Vlado.

I set up a brand new scene and it seems to work fine. So it has to do with either, setting up the sun in the vrayDome light rig, or having multiple rig setups in one scene disabled apart from the one you want to use?

I will setup a new scene with a new vrayDome rig see what happens.

Ok, interesting. I set up a brand new scene as before. A Vray Dome light with EXR loaded with a Sun in the scene. Sun is displayed in RT no problem. Keep RT session open and link the Sun and Dome, Sun still displayed no problem. Restart Vray RT and at this point and the Sun dissapears. During this session unlink the Sun and Dome, Sun still not invisible. Close and restart RT Sun is back.

Its able to display sun/dome link up during an RT session, but not after a restart, you would have to go through the whole process of linking up during a vrayRT session every time.

A good way of working around having to use the Sun linked to the dome is to use the Outline Script from script spot, which manages layers in the same way sketch up does. Allows you to keep the Sun, Dome's together in a neat layer instead.
