  • New to RT - "Failed to compile" error

We just got our new workstations with good GPU's and VRay 2 (been using 1.5sp6). VRay 2 is installed but every time I try to render with the GPU (either one or both) I get a "failed to compile" error in the console and a crash. Looks similar to http://www.chaosgroup.com/forums/vbu...ck-to-CPU-code

I have the latest nVidia drivers which according to the post above might be the problem. However that post is over 6 months old now... Any suggestions? What is the appropriate driver version to be using?

    GeForce 580 3GB, Dell dual Xeon 6-core, 20GB RAM.

If you are using the 275.x drivers, they seem to have an issue. The 270.x drivers seem to work fine.

    Best regards,

Switching to 270.x drivers sort of fixed my problem.

With the new drivers it works if I use RT as a production renderer but immediately crashes if selected for ActiveShade.

      Any other thoughts?

Nevermind. Didn't think to change my active shade renderer to RT. It was on scanline and evidently if you leave it as scanline you crash Max.

I can tell you that I've tried RT on two machines, both Sandy Bridge, one with a Quadro 600 and the other with a GTX 580 and they both crashed RT using the latest 275 WHQL drivers. Installing the 270.X WHQL solved that issue on both machines.
