Ah that. Please email us to vray@chaosgroup.com and we'll get you an update that fixes the issue with the newer nVidia drivers. Or you can get the new service pack which should be out shortly.

      Best regards,
      Vlado

You'll have to wait a bit for the "Building OpenCL program..." phase to complete. It may take several minutes, depending on your graphics card and driver version. This will only happen the first time you run V-Ray RT GPU; afterwards the GPU program is cached and is loaded immediately.

          Best regards,

now using nvidia drivers 276.42 for Quadro 2000, and the 2.20.02 build of V-ray RT, but the "Building OpenCL trace program" has taken 10min so far, and nothing to show for it. How long does it take?

Generally the new build works great with the CPU rendering, but I just can't get past the "building" stage with GPU

No, we won't make it unfortunately; the 3ds Max release happened a bit later than originally planned and everyone is away next week. But it will be the first thing we will work on in January.

There are still the nightly builds if you want to try a particular feature.

Yes, it can take quite a while. I think it was well over 7 or 8 minutes in my case. The newer code can also take quite a bit of RAM to compile, so you may be paging to disk or something like that. Monitor your RAM usage in Task Manager to see if you are using up all of your RAM while compiling.

                        Hope this helps,

The newest 290.x drivers are quite fast if you have the RAM; they take about 64s seconds to build the OpenCL code from scratch for the Quadro 2000M on my laptop and the GeForce 580 GTX on my workstation. Unfortunately the Tesla and full Quadro drivers seem to be a bit behind...

                            Thanks for the pointers.

I can't find drivers 290.x, highest available seems to be 285.x but they seem to be older than the ones I'm using.

To put a bit more info into the mix, here are some stats of the machine that seems not to build the OpenCL trace program:
3DStudio Max 2012 - nitros shaded (not realistic)
                            Intel Xeon E5649 2.53GHZ (2 processors) (6 cores - hyperthreaded = 24 cores)
                            24GB Ram
nVidia Quadro 2000 graphic card, dual monitor.

I put two boxes into a new scene, a v-ray light, a v-ray sun, and set the GI on. I then set the active shade to OpenCL and hit render. Time just ticks by and nothing happens.
I've put a screenshot of relevant info below to help

Please let me know if there is any more info that would help.

                            Regards,

                            Bill

P.S. I was impressed last time this didn't work, with the response from an email I submitted via email. I quickly got a new version of V-ray that worked, and when I had another problem with it, the response was also quick.

                            Great work Chaos group.

P.P.S. still waiting at 09:34 (started at 09:14:45 according to log). Ram use is barely changing, and processor usage is still at 4%. Not much happening really.

When I did the build opencl,
it was with a plane and a teapot and it took about 30-40 minutes. So let it go

I have a scene with two cubes and a flat poly, and I've given up after waiting for an hour.

                                Any suggestions?
