  • Open CL error

I'm having problems getting GPU rendering up and running. When I try to run the 'Select OpenCL devices for V-Ray RT' program I get the following error message: 'Error -1001 occurred while getting platforms data'.

Can anyone help shed some light on this?

I have a Quadro 2000 and Tesla C2075 installed so keen to see what they can do compared to CPU version.

Are you running a Remote Desktop session? If yes, then this is the reason for the error. Remote Desktop uses a virtual display driver that has no access to the GPU. You will need to be physically logged in, or you can use other remote control software like VNC or LogMeIn.

Also, if you are making comparisons, it might make sense to compare the GPUs to software OpenCL on the CPU - the AMD software OpenCL works quite well, even on Intel machines.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

Hi Vlado. No, nothing like that. The graphics cards are setup using Nvidia's maximus technology, I don't know much about it as I'm not the one who configured the machine, maybe this is the reason? I'm aware this might not be a Vray-specific problem, but if you can offer any advice I'd be grateful.

Which driver version do you have then?

Is it possible that in the Maximus configuration he needs to check "Use for Both Graphics and Compute Tasks" in order to get the card to do anything besides run the display?

          Just a quick guess...

Thanks for the suggestion Alan, but it doesn't make a difference I'm afraid. Current driver versions are 9.18.13.697 for the Quadro and 8.17.12.9703 for the Tesla. Not sure what that is in terms of an Nvidia release number though.
