  • CUDA and OpenCL Vray RT not working with indirect illumination on

    Hi there,

I have a GeForce GTX 780ti with driver 332.21 (the latest) and am running Maya 2014 service pack 2 with Vray 2.40.

If I turn indirect illumination off, CUDA and OpenCL work just fine as the RT engine. As soon as I turn indirect illumination on and start up RT again I get a black screen in my render window.

This happens for incredibly simple scenes (one object and environment GI texture set to gray).

Indirect illumination works just fine when I'm using CPU as the engine.

Is this a known issue? If not, is there an earlier GeForce driver that folks here know works? Or is there another solution?

    Thanks a lot,

    Ted

Can you post your simple scene? Seems to work fine here. In any case, it is not a driver issue.

    Best regards,

Thanks Vlado. No problem. Here's a super simple file where when I use CUDA for the engine in RT, it won't render.

GI texture override is ignored in RT/GPU. It's working only in VRay 3.

This is a bug which has been resolved in 3.0 private beta version but it is still not ported to 2.x version.
When GI is activated RT CUDA/OpenCL assumes that the GI environment color is black regardless of what color or textures is applied.
Absence of light source in the scene in combination with black-background color produce a pure black-rendering. You could avoid that by:

          * changing BG-color to something different than black
          * add a light sources in the scene
          * disable Global Illumination since CUDA/OpenCL always use it even if it is disabled.
